Schools of Waco Waco High Band Rocks the Record Book
The Waco High bands participated in the University Interscholastic League Region 8 concert and sight reading band contest in Copperas Cove, Texas. The Waco High concert band received a division one rating for their outstanding stage performances and a division two rating for sight-reading. The symphonic winds received straight division one ratings from all six judges in both stage and sight-reading performances. These accomplishments, combined with the Waco High marching band's straight division one ratings and area placement qualified the Waco High band program for the UIL Sweepstakes award. "Our records indicate that the last time this was accomplished was in 1984," said Scott Stulir, Waco High Director of Bands. Waco High Principal Clarence Simmons praised Stulir and assistant band directors, Kayla Nelson and Cameron Akin for their leadership. "When you couple this with the superior rating they received in the fall for the marching band competition, then the band received the highest award for UIL band competition," Simmons said. Simmons applauded the fact that it was the first time a Waco High band has accomplished such a feat in 26 years. This would have been prior to the consolidation of the Waco schools in 1986. Stulir said he also is incredibly proud of his students’ accomplishments this year. "Their willingness to step up and take care of their individual academic business as well as musical performance level has made an incredible difference in the schools overall band program," Stulir said. Congratulations to the WHS band students on their stellar achievement this year.

I just wanted you all to be in the know about our First Annual Waco High Lion Football Lift A Thon! Lift A Thon is a way for our students to show off their hard work before the actual competition of another season all while raising funds to help increase our strength for another season. We are trying to raise in excess of $40,000 over the course of the next couple of years, so that we might improve our weightroom and the equipment therein. Our weightroom is shared among multiple sports including boy's soccer and boy's basketball, and it is available for other's use as we work around season schedules. With all of the use it gets, we need improvements in our weight rack and platforms, new machinery for multiple strength uses, and training equipment for rehabilitation and maintenance workouts. Some of the items we would like to purchase include lifting platforms and leg drive machines which would no doubt improve the look of our facitlity, but are needed to help facilitate our strength gains and injury prevention in all sports. Please consider joining us March 3rd at 7pm in the competition gym here at Waco High for the show off bench press presentation of our athletes as they would love to see you and have your support for their efforts and team.
