Students must be in standard mode of dress, on time, and prepared to work.If you have questions about Saturday School, please contact Waco High at 776-1150.
*Please note: not all Saturdays will host Saturday School. These dates have been selected with testing dates and holidays in mind.
WHS Choir Spring Fling Talent ShowThis Thursday, March 8th at 7:30 pm, the following Waco High Choir students will be performing in the WHS Choir Spring Fling Talent Show. Tickets are $5 for Waco ISD faculty and students who present their school ID's . Pre-Sale tickets for non Waco ISD faculty and staff are $8 dollars. Tickets will be $10 dollars at the door. Students will be performing songs that feature the color Black or White. I have attached a flyer that you are more than welcome to print and post in your classes. It should be a great show and we hope to see you there.
Thanks, Carrie Forehand Waco High: Scarlet Line Contest Results The team received a Sweepstakes Trophy with Judges Honors for scoring a 92 or better on each scoresheet from each of the three judges for all three of their entries. The team also received Best in Category for Team Lyrical, Best in Category for Team Novelty and Best in Category for Team Military. They were also awarded a Judges Choice Award for Crowd Appeal for their Team Novelty, which was their own spin on "Granny Zumba." There were only four Judges Choice Awards handed out at this contest and we received one of the four. The team was also awarded a Champion's Circle Award for having some of the top scoring routines of the day.
Just another example of when we set the expectations high for our students, they will achieve whatever we ask of them. The boys varsity soccer team defeated China Spring Tuesday night (Feb28), 3-0. Goal scorers were Jose Jaimes, Jason Diaz and Alejandro Cordero. Outstanding defense was played by Hiram Williams, Hernan Landaverde, Bryan Reyes and Mauro Bocanegra. Carlos Lopez recored his 4th shutout in district play.
Their next game is NEXT Friday (Mar2) vs University at 5:30.

back to topThe Freshman boys soccer team played last night against Gatesville and defeated them 3-1! Goals were scored by Luis Amador, Geobanni Betancourt, and Francisco Ramirez. Zachary Gibson had two assits and Pablo Alejandro provided great offensive options on the left midfield for the lions.

back to topMonday (Feb27) night the jv boys soccer team traveled to Cleburne to face those feisty yellow jackets. Tthe boys put a great game of soccer together and came away with a victory with a score of 2-1! Cameron Mccutcheon and Jjulio Loredo (pk) were the goal scorers for the lions. The lions' outstanding and solid defensive players were Eder Corvera, Aaron Balderas, and Caleb Moreno. Overall the team played well as they focused on the fundamentals of the game.

We'd like to congratulate the Lady Lions JV Soccer team for beating University 2-1 last night! Goals were scored by Sarah Gilmore and Jessica Reed. The ladies played hard, with no subs for the entire game!
The Lady Lions improve to 2-2 in District. Come support our ladies again on Saturday as they take on Killeen at Paul Tyson at 10am.

Our Freshman boys Soccer team played Saturday against Midway and defeated them 2-1! Goals were scored by Luis Amador and Geobanni Betancourt.
Our midfielders Jesus Ramirez and Zachary Gibson did an outstanding job while our defense led by Jordan O'geda and Marcos Villeda made it difficult for the panthers to score on us.

High Rotary Challenge Team defeated Bosqueville High School 190 -- 100.
Helen Hoover, Veronica Castillo, Jov-Van-Ta Mason and Marshall Tekell
are members. If you see them give them a "weel-done."
For over forty years The Rotary International Club has sponsored the Quiz Television Program "Challenge" Local television station KCEN tapes the programs and they are broadcast in the Spring.
Each school that chooses to particapate has four students who have three rounds of questions. Round one is general knowledge toss-up questions. Round two is a "Lighting Round" where teams select a category and have one minute to answer ten questions. Round three is another toss-up round. Questions range from five points to twenty points for each correct answer. If a team misses a question the opposing team may answer the missed question. Points are earned for correct answers only.
The competition has preliminary rounds, quarter finals, semi-finals and finals. In 2007, Waco High took 2nd place over all.

VASE
stands for Visual Arts Scholastic Event. Several WHS students competed
in the Region 12 VASE meet.
There were four different divisions according to what level of art students had completed in high school and the highest score they could make is a 4, which all of our participants made. Part of their scores were based on a one on one interview with a judge in which they talked in detail about their artwork.

The following Waco High School Orchestra students earned a "Superior" rating on their solos at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest held this past Saturday, February 18, 2012 on the University High School campus. Winning a silver medal (pictured left to right) 12th Grader Jacob Guerrero on violin and winning a silver medal, 10th grader, Evan Cooper on viola. Congratulations to these students.

On Saturday 02/18/12 The Waco High Band took several students to the UIL Region 8 Solo & ensemble contest hosted at University High School. We are pleased to announce that 18 WHS band students received Division ONE ratings on their Class 1 solo's & ensembles (the most difficult classification available), 11 WHS band students received Division Two's, and 2 freshman students received a division Three rating on their solo's.
Out of these students, 15 of them qualified to move on to the prestigious Texas State Solo & Ensemble contest held in May at UT Austin.

This past Saturday, the Waco High Choral Program had 47 students participate in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition held at the Waco High Performing Arts Center. We are proud to announce that 17 students received a rating of a 1 on their solo and 22 students received a rating of a 2.
Out of those 17 students who received a 1, we have 12 students eligible to advance to the State Solo and Ensemble competition held in Austin at the end of May. These 12 students earned a superior rating on a class 1 solo which is the hardest performance level. Please help me in congratulating all of the students listed.

The competition cheer team placed 1st in the High School Non-tumbling division at American Cheer Power Nationals this weekend. This is the first national championship title for the WHS cheer program.

That Friday, the boys defeated Connally HS, 8-0. Last night, varsity defeated
Mexia 7-0 with Jason Diaz scoring 5 goals and Ben Diaz scoring 2.
Their next game is this Friday AT La Vega at 7:30.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team earned a playoff spot by defeating Stephenville Tuesday by a score of 65 - 62 in overtime. They overcame a 16 point deficit and some really interesting calls by the home team referees. We will be in action next against the #4 team in the state, Arlington Seguin, next Tuesday at 7:00 at Midlothian Hight School. It sure would be nice to see some support in the stands.

back to topOn Thursday, February 16 Waco High School PTSA will be offering a parent information night for parents of 8th-12th grade students.
It will be held in the cafeteria beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Dr. Boswell regarding the Gifted and Talented program in WacoISD. This will be followed by an update from Sharon Hetherington, Coordinator of Counseling for Waco ISD at 6:30 p.m.
Parents will receive information regarding the Gifted and Talented program from 6:00p.m.-6:30p.m. At 6:30p.m., topics discussed will include the Pre-AP (Advanced Placement), AP, Dual-Credit offerings, college application process, financial aid and scholarships. Parents attending will receive a free copy of the 2012 Texas Monthly College Guide, containing more than 75 Top Texas schools.
Refreshments will be served.

They are currently tied for 3rd place with Midway. The Lady Lions will play Friday night at 6:00 at University High School against Midway.

WHS students participated in the SKILLS USA animation contest. Students were given a storyboard, an image of the earth and the moon, and a reference sheet on the phases of the moon. With this information the students had to create a 35 second animation on the phases of the moon for a Childrens Museum. Our students did an outstanding job. I have posted some of the entries here.

The Lady Lion Varsity Basketball team lost a hard fight against Midway at home. The girls were only trailing by 4 at the half and by 2 points at the start of the 4th quarter. The girls played hard but ending up losing 44 to 53.
The JV girls basketball team came back being down 17 points at the half and won by 3! Way to go girls!
Freshman girls also lost a tough game but played super hard!!!!
The varsity team is still fighting for playoff spots and are still in it, so please encourage them when you see them - they are really working hard to seal a spot for playoffs! Thanks for your support!

All lifters improved at least 50 pounds from their last meet with Josh, Derrick Moore, Jaquill Harden, Noah Russell and Nick all increasing 80 pounds or more from the first meet.

back to topJanuary 31, 2012 - Peer Mediation is students helping students resolve conflict. Anyone can refer students to the mediation process. Forms to request a mediation are available outside of room 135, at the front desk, the library, or from any administrator. Teachers also have a copy of the form.
Mediation is done by students who have gone through extensive training in conflict resolution. If you have any questions, you can call Christy Freeman at 254-776-1150 or email cfreeman@waco isd.org.
