Monday Night Madness

Looking for a good time on Halloween???

Well head up to the competition gym here at Waco High School this Monday, October 31st @ 6:00pm! The Boys and Girls Basketball Teams will be hosting their kickoff event,

Monday Madness!

It's always been a tradition in basketball and we need as many people to come pack our gym to support these hard working athletes! We will have a slam dunk contest, 3 point contest, and scrimmages.

Accompanying the contest we will have our one and only "DJ Batman" for 104.9 THE BEAT getting everyone pumped up for this year's basketball season. He will have T-shirts to give out and prizes. Also, if you come dressed up in your Halloween costume we will have a contest for the best dressed and prizes to give away!


You won't want to miss out! Ask any of the basketball coaches for details and/or if you have questions. Thanks and hope to see everyone there!

JV Boys Cross Country Capture 8 First Place Medals

Wednesday, Oct 19th - The Boys Cross Country team traveled to Aquilla for a meet.

The JV Boys took first place with medalist being: Jose Umansor, Manuel Hernandez, Arturo Quintero, Rogelio Lorenzo, Aaron Balderas, Mark Phillips, Nathan Wells and Alexander Nguyem.

The Varsity Boys Captured 3rd place with medalist being Ty Sanchez and Lorenzo Loredo.

Congratulations to these young men and their accomplishments.

Our District meet will be next Wednesday, October 26.

Built Ford Tough Player of the Week

Built Ford Tough Player of the WeekWaco High School and the community would like to congratulate Darrell Harris on being named the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week for Zero Week. Darrell helped lead the Waco Lions to a season opening win, with outstanding effort and performance.

Built Ford Tough Player of the Week - Zero Week
Class 4-A: Darrell Harris, RB/DB/KR, Waco, was a one-man wrecking crew in the Lions' 52-35 win over Austin. He carried 22 times for 338 yards and six TDs, caught a pass for 47, returned a punt for 41, and returned six kickoffs, including a key 51-yarder in the 4th quarter. A key defender too, he rarely misses a play. He's a star in track, carries a 3.42 GPA, and works in the Reading Cubs program, reading to young elementary school students.

Waco vs. Killeen Ellison

Freshmen - The freshmen football team lost to Killeen Ellison 20-23 Wednesday night. Scoring plays came on a DJ Scott TD pass to Sylvester White. DJ Scott also ran for a 3 yard TD run and threw for another score which was a 25 yard TD pass to Kylen Robinson. The freshmen will play again next Thursday at Paul Tyson Stadium as they host Abilene Wiley.

Tailgaters Welcome at WISD Stadium

Tailgaters Welcome at WISD StadiumArrive early, grab a bite to eat, cheer loud, cheer often and leave happy. Football season is here again and Waco ISD Stadium is the place to be on Friday nights. If you like to tailgate before the game, the stadium has designated tailgating locations in the home and visitors parking lots. Tailgating guidelines have also been established to promote a safe, fun and clean environment for all fans. Come out this Friday to see your Waco High Lions take on the always tough Copperas Cove Bulldogs.

Waco High Volleyball

The JV Lady Lions volleyball team traveled to the Robinson Tournament for pool play on Thursday and ended the evening winning 2 of 3 matches. It was a slow start to the afternoon and the ladies dropped the first match vs Academy 11-25, 13-25. They fought back in their next match of the afternoon against Reicher and won in 3 sets, 21-25, 25-16, 28-26. By far, the best match of the day came against Rosebud-Lott. With some TERRIFIC team effort, the Lady Lions were victorious 25-16, 25-19.

Please be sure to tell these ladies congratulations on their wins and wish them luck as we take to the court again on Saturday for bracket play in the Robinson Tournament.

Waco vs. Copperas Cove

Waco High FootballFreshmen: The Freshmen Lions lost a hard fought game to Copperas Cove Thursday night 28-23. The Lion scores came from Dionte Sullivan on a 20 yard TD run, Addarius Norwood's TD reception of 10 yards from DJ Scott, and another TD reception from DJ Scott to Devean Porter of 12 yards. Jason Diaz added his second field goal of the year from 40 yards to round out the scoring. Nate Williamson added an interception for the defense. The defense also held Cove on a 4th and goal stand. The Freshmen Lions will play again next Wednesday night in Killeen. Please be sure to tell your student athletes congratulations on a superb effort, and wish them luck for next week.

Junior Varsity: The JV football team suffered a 41-20 loss at Copperas Cove. Christian Sims scored twice on a 65 yard run and a 65 yard screen pass. Vincent Minor caught a two point conversion pass from Trayhnam Moore. The JV Football team will play their next game at home on Wednesday vs. Killeen-Ellison at Paul Tyson Field.

Varsity: The Varsity team plays Friday night against Copperas Cove at 7:30pm in the WISD Stadium. GO LIONS!

Waco vs. Austin High

Freshmen: The freshmen football team got off to a strong start with a 31-0 victory over Austin High. Key plays came from DJ Scott, with his 70 yard interception return for a touchdown. Kylan Robinson also returned an interception for a TD from 60 yards out. Dionte Sullivan led the offense to a score with a 8 yard TD run. The special teams were led by Jason Diaz with a 27 yard field goal. The freshmen team will play again at Paul Tyson Field next Thursday night against Copperas Cove.

Junior Varsity: The JV Football team started off the season with a 22-0 victory over Austin High. Khari Powell and Christian Sims scored on runs of 26 and 50 yards to lead the Lions ground attack. Devion Green caught a 16 yard touchdown pass from Trayhnam Moore for the other score. Vincent Minor and Powell scored on two point conversions.

The defense held Austin out of the end zone and twice stopped the Maroons inside the 10 yard line. Emanuel Washington and Adrian Chapman had interceptions for the Lion defense. James Harper was a force in the middle of the Lion defense with several tackles.

Varsity: Varsity won 52-35!
