2011-2012 Dress Code
Slacks, Shorts, Skirts, Dresses or Jumpers
- These must be “Docker style”.
- These shall be solid color tan, beige, brown, black, gray or navy.
- No glitter, shimmer, other color distraction, holes, or fraying is permitted.
- These shall be appropriately sized—not tight fitting; not loose fitting.
- These must fit securely at the waist and be properly hemmed or cuffed at or below the knee.
- These may not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation or creates a distraction (“sagging” not allowed).
- Belts are not required if belt loops are not visible or available.
- No stretch slacks, sweat pants, jogging pants, wind suits, warm-ups, overalls, coveralls, or jeans of ANY color are allowed.
- No leather, suede, vinyl, or denim fabric is allowed.
- Length of shorts, skirts, dresses, or jumpers must be below the knee.
- The top of any slit in skirts or dresses must also be clearly no higher than the knee.
- No stripes or embroidery are allowed.
- JEANS may be worn only designated spirit days WITH A CAMPUS APPROVED SPIRIT SHIRT.
- Jeans may not be frayed in any way or have any holes when worn on DESIGNATED SPIRIT DAYS.
- All pant guidelines listed above apply to jeans when worn (only on DESIGNATED SPIRIT DAYS).
Shirts or Blouses
- These shall be any solid color (no multicolor).
- These must have a standard collar.
- These must be golf style, polo style with buttons, a dress shirt with buttons, or turtleneck.
- These must be appropriately buttoned above the chest area at all times (This is the responsibility of the student. Inappropriately exposed skin is a violation of the dress code.).
- These may not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation or creates a distraction.
- Shirt tails may be untucked as long as no part of the shirt tail extends past fingertip length.
- No leather, suede, vinyl, denim or stretch fabric is permitted.
- These may not be sleeveless.
- No glitter, shimmer or other color distraction is permitted.
- These shall be appropriately sized (not form fitting or tight).
- A single logo, no larger than the student’s flattened hand, is allowed on shirts and blouses.
- Spirit shirts must be UHS specific and approved by school administration; any school designated, approved spirit shirt must be supporting University High School or a UHS team, club, or organization.
- If a t-shirt or turtleneck shirt is worn underneath the dress shirt, it shall be a solid color and must NOT be sleeveless.
Sweatshirts, Vests, Sweaters, Windbreakers, Sport Coats, and Blazers
- These may be worn only over the standard collar.
- These must be a solid color.
- These must be appropriately sized in the shoulders, sleeves, and length.
- A single logo, no larger than the student’s flattened hand, is allowed on sweatshirts, vests, sweaters, windbreakers, sport coats, and blazers.
- Spirit sweatshirts must be UHS specific and approved by school administration; designated, approved spirit shirt must be supporting University High School or a UHS team, club, or organization.
- These may not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation or creates a distraction.
Outside Jackets and Coats
- All fabrics are acceptable.
- These may not be worn in any way that reflects gang affiliation or creates a distraction.
- Full length jackets/coats such as those commonly referred to as “trench” coats or “dusters” are not allowed; ¾ length (or less) jackets/coats are acceptable.
- Outside heavy jackets and coats are considered to be cold weather apparel only and are not to be worn in the school building.
- Only UHS letter jackets are allowed.
Hair
- Hair must be neat, clean and well-groomed.
- No type of head covering, cap, hat or hair rollers may be worn inside the building; long-handled combs are prohibited for safety reasons.
- Distracting styles and/or unnatural hair colors are not allowed.
Shoes
- Students must wear shoes appropriate for school (no house slippers, thongs, or flip flops).
- All shoes must include at least a back strap over the heel.
- Wheels, glitter, noise-makers or lights are not permitted on footwear.
Miscellaneous
- Revealing or tight garments considered inappropriately sized are prohibited.
- Accessories and clothing with inappropriate decorations or advertisements are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, any item that depicts the occult, gang membership, death, suicide, violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or ethnic bias.
- The following items may NOT be worn:
- Caps, hats, hoods, hairnets, or head covering
- Sunglasses
- Garments that have holes worn or torn in them
- Heavy chains, spike necklaces, heavy chain necklaces or other inappropriate types of jewelry
- Leggings worn as pants or with a long, tunic-style top
- No more than two (2) earrings may be worn in the ear lobe only. Nose rings, lip rings, tongue piercing rings or any other body piercings are not permitted.
- Solid color leggings are allowed as long as they are one of the colors for dress code pants (tan, beige, brown, black, gray or navy) and are worn under a dress, skirt or jumper that is knee-length or longer.
- JROTC uniforms are considered standardized dress on designated days.
